Muskaan khatun still begging for justice

A 15-year-old girl Muskan Khatun  was severely injured in an acid attack at Ganeshman Chowk in Birgunj at about 6am on Friday 6 sep 2019.

A  16-year-old Samsad Miya attacked Muskaan in order to exact revenge after Khatun rebuffed his friend Majid Alam’s romantic overtures, according to police. Muskan  was assaulted on her way to school.

“Majid Alam was furious after his proposal was rejected.

Khatun, who suffered burns on her face, chest and hands, was admitted to the Narayani and later on transferred to Kirtipur Hospital  kathmandu for further treatment.

Alam had asked Miya to first ask Khatun why she had stopped speaking to him.“If she doesn’t reply then throw acid on her body,” Alam reportedly told Miya.

He went up to Khatun and asked her why she hadn’t been speaking to Alam. Khatun replied that she was getting late for school and had no reason to speak to Alam.

 As she tried to make her way to school, Miya threw acid on her body. Other school students then took the injured Khatun to Narayani Hospital on a rickshaw.She had demanded stern punishment for the culprits who carried out acid attack on her. 

She put forth her demands in a two-page long letter to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, dated October 24  2019. 

Muskan has been recovering since then.The judgment came from the district court of Parsa where they were unable to find evidence regarding the age of the assailants to be tried as adults, while their given ages of Majid Miya Hajam were 14 years and Shamshad Alam 12 years. 

Though Aalam and Miya were found guilty as per the evidence, non-confirmation of their ages has led to the decision of sending them to a correction centre instead of prison, as per the Child Protection Act, 2075, said Chief Judge Kharel.

And in April 26 2020,Recently Muskan is still pleadging fpr nepali to raise their voice to her justice as the victim has still not got justice according the post made on social media. Watch her video .

However, as per the medical reportsubmitted by Birgunj-based Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital to the police, the age of Aalam is between 16 to 18 years while Miya’s age is between 18 to 20 years.
