Mr. Upendra Pokharel, A secretary of NMSRA Biratnagar and a Medical Representative by profession, expresses his unsatisfaction against the responsibility taken by NMSRA and other concerning medical companies for no controlling and not making a perfect steps and guidelines for minimizing road accidents of Medical Representatives in Nepal.
Mr. Pokharel remembers the post made by him two years ago on facebook tagging Nepal Medical Sales Representative Association Nepal (NMSRA). But he feels amazing as the situation is still the same today.
In Nepal, the life of the Medical Representatives are at high risk while travelling to long distances during their work to ex- stations.
Abide from the company pressures for their sales target , collection, payment, handling expiries and one way acceptance of the orders made by their superiors, they are seen mentally pressurised on their job and riding a motorcycle to long distances are the main reason of those accidents.
Some days ago a Medical Representative Mahesh Bhatt, former joint secretary of NMSRA Dhangadhi unit and Medical representative of Albert David Limited, was injured in a road accident on 2077-03-14 and passed away on 2077-03-16 while undergoing treatment .
In Nepal nearly 8-10 Medical Representative loose their lives on road accidents on duty during travelling.
And neither his family is compensated nor those issues are discussed seriously by the companies and the Association made for the welfare of Medical Representatives is what he says.
"For almost five years now, I have been working as a Medical Representative in various parts of Nepal. This profession is also a highly sensitive, well-respected profession like the pharmaceutical business. All those who come to this profession are at least those who have passed the graduate level. But with the constant motorcycle accidents, and the loss of 8/10 friends (all over the country) every year due to accidents, it seems that disgust towards this profession has started to arise. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. However, since I came to this profession, about 35/40 friends have lost their lives due to accidents. But till date, no steps have been taken by any company to minimize such accidents. In some companies, even their employees are not insured. Even the NMSRA, which is organized for the benefit of medical professionals, has not done an effective job in minimizing such accidents. The number of accidents is increasing day by day."
Mr. Upendra Pokharel would like to draw the attention of the concerned company and NMSRA CENTRAL to take initiative to find out the cause of the increasing number of accidents and minimize it.
He also requested his colleagues and friends to ride a motorcycle safely by slowing down, using public transport as much as possible while walking long distances, not to ride a motorcycle at night and after consuming alcohol. Not only our own, but also the responsibility of protecting the family is on our shoulders is what he says.
