Kathmandu. Now, to get a SIM card, genuine citizenship is required. The Nepal Telecommunications Authority, the regulator, issued a notice on Thursday instructing the service providers to implement the provision.
In order to get the SIM card, the customer has to carry his / her original identity card (citizenship certificate or voter identity card or passport or other identity cards as prescribed by the authority) even when he / she is present in person. The service provider will have to issue the SIM card only after verifying the original identity card.
NTA has stated that it has taken this decision on the issue of security. "When mobile service providers distribute SIM card sales by themselves or through designated authorized dealers, a copy of one person's identity card is obtained by another person and unauthorized access to another person's mobile number is obtained," the notice said. Unauthorized access to networks and other digital services and data and security risks increased.
